CashCourse funded 25 colleges and universities in the fall 2017 semester through our Reimbursement Program for Incentives. These schools received up to $500 in gift card or food incentives for their financial literacy events. Several of our recipients went above and beyond and achieved some amazing results. We wanted to share some of the highlights from this past cycle.
- Winona State University provided their students with “CashCart” events and money management workshops. They were able to reach 111 students in person with these events. CashCart events involve a rented golf cart and a sense of adventure. Winona State financial aid officers drove the cart and offered students a chance to ride and answer money management questions to win gift cards; the popular game show “Cash Cab” is the inspiration. This has proven to be a fun, creative way of involving students with financial education and getting the word out about campus resources.
- South Dakota State University focused their programming on a partnership between the extension office and their first year seminar classes. Lorna Saboe-Wounded Head presented on money management to the FYE classes and did an excellent job encouraging students to visit CashCourse. Their school’s account had more than 450 visitors for the cycle and an average time of 18 minutes spent on the website! Saboe-Wounded Head estimated she was able to reach more than 200 students in person through her FYE presentations. This is a great example of meeting students where they already are.
- Florida State University used their Reimbursement Program funds to support a mix of workshops and personal financial consultations for students. Nearly 400 students attended a financial consultation session, and student feedback was very positive. FSU did an outstanding job surveying students after each of their events; their evaluation efforts will help guide future planning and offerings.
If you are interested in applying for the CashCourse Reimbursement Program, the next application will be available in May. In addition to the Incentives track for schools, individuals can apply for the CashCourse Reimbursement Program for Continuing Education. This provides up to $500 in funding for further learning in financial education. These funding opportunities are an excellent way to supplement your school’s financial literacy efforts or further your professional development in the field!
